Spiritual Experiences – Milestones In Spiritual Practice

The Spiritual Science Analysis Basis (SSRF) defines that which is knowledgeable with the medium from the five senses, mind and intellect being an ‘expertise’ though enduring one thing and that is outside of the comprehension of your five senses, intellect and intellect constitutes a ‘spiritual expertise’.

Regardless of whether one can perceive an occasion in the 5 senses, mind and intellect but The main reason powering it really is past the gross intellect of mankind, it nonetheless constitutes a spiritual expertise.

1. Spiritual activities connected with the five Absolute cosmic factors

Development within our spiritual practice activates our sixth feeling and we start to get expertise of absolutely the cosmic factors progressively, commencing from quite possibly the most gross to quite possibly the most subtle, i.e. Absolute Earth, Water, Hearth, Air and Ether features as a result of our subtle feeling of scent, flavor, eyesight, touch and audio respectively.

2. Spiritual experience and spiritual degree

With bigger spiritual amount, we get greater plus much more refined spiritual ordeals.
A particular spiritual knowledge may or may not point out a specific spiritual degree but may additionally take place resulting from powerful spiritual apply, being in the organization of Saints, etcetera.
Often ghosts (demon, devils, spirits, and so forth.) can develop illusionary spiritual experiences in somebody in an effort to frighten him/her. This kind of refined knowledge occurs with no rise in spiritual volume of the focused individual.
All folks at a specific spiritual amount will not likely necessarily perceive similar spiritual experiences. The spiritual standard of an individual is the net operate of many attributes, sixth perception becoming only one of them.
Someone may possibly achieve Sainthood (i.e. the 70% spiritual degree) without the need of when owning perceived through the five refined senses. One of The explanations could be this particular person has by now experienced these activities in past times everyday living and doesn’t want them now.
3. What’s the significance of spiritual experiences? Era of belief and religion within the theoretical element of Spiritual science

When a person undertakes an acceptable spiritual follow according to The essential rules of Spiritual science, a single makes spiritual development and gets spiritual experiences. Spiritual follow bridges the hole involving theoretical expertise obtained from publications and spiritually experiencing it which allows a person to build faith from the theoretical knowledge.

3.2. Recognition of spiritual development

Spiritual experiences validate that seekers have adopted ideal spiritual apply. Receiving progressively higher spiritual encounters validate spiritual progress. Spiritual experiences act like milestones and stimulate us on our spiritual journey. Suppose we ended up to discontinue our spiritual follow, we might not go on to acquire spiritual experiences. If we ended up to stagnate during the spiritual exercise, we will not likely get bigger spiritual ordeals. By stagnation in spiritual observe, we necessarily mean accomplishing the same spiritual practice 12 months soon after yr, without having rising it qualitatively or quantitatively. That is God’s method of telling us that We’ve to reinforce our spiritual apply further more.

3.3. Reduction of Moi by impressing the greatness of God

Reduction in Moi is actually a primary requisite for spiritual expansion. The narrations from the spiritual encounters of your co-seekers in assortment and depth make us realise how insignificant a person is, as compared with God who presents every one of us unique spiritual experiences to create faith. Due to this fact, a person’s Moi about just one’s personal talents will get diminished when compared to God’s capacity.

4. Why can it be that occasionally we don’t attain spiritual ordeals despite spiritual observe?

Spiritual activities are indicators of our spiritual progress. Nevertheless our spiritual development might not commence as soon as we begin spiritual observe. The rationale for this is always that our spiritual apply may be utilised to decrease the intensity of our severe destiny (i.e. Future that results in working experience of unhappiness) in place of solely for spiritual progress. As a result, spiritual progress won’t take place in the beginning and that’s why we don’t get spiritual ordeals. Nonetheless persistent spiritual observe permits us to beat this initial phase.

Social Media Marketing, Reality and Lies

Social Media Advertising and marketing appears to be the most up-to-date buzz term for any one wanting to boost their on the net existence and sales, but is Social Media Advertising and marketing (SMM) all it is cracked up to be?

S.M.M companies are now springing up all in excess of the place these days and they are telling any one that will listen about how exceptionally crucial social media like Fb twitter and YouTube are to your business but, for the normal smaller to medium sized business, does internet marketing to social networks actually dwell up to all the buzz? Is investing a smaller fortune on selecting a SMM company actually well worth it? And has any one actually finished their investigate on this ahead of they hired somebody to established up there Fb business website page? Some SMM companies are location up issues like Fb business pages (which are no cost) for $600 to $1,000 or additional and telling their clients that they will not require a web site due to the fact Fb is the biggest social network in the earth and everyone has a Fb account. Now when it might be true that Fb is the greatest social network in the earth and sure, Facebook’s customers are likely consumers, the authentic concern is are they truly buying? Social media internet marketing companies are all way too joyful to level out the positives of social media like how numerous people use Fb or how numerous tweets ended up sent out past year and how numerous people observe YouTube films and many others. but are you having the full image? I at the time sat future to a SMM “expert” at a business seminar who was spruiking to any one who came inside of earshot about the awesome advantages of location up a Fb business website page for smaller business (with him of system) and marketing on Fb. So, intrigued by the aforementioned “industry experts” suggestions I looked him up on Fb only to obtain he had only eleven Fb close friends (not a superior commence). So becoming the investigate nut that I am, I determined to choose a superior appear into SMM in regard to marketing to see if it truly labored, who did it operate for and if it did why did Social Media Advertising and marketing operate for them? And should really business depend so greatly on social networks for sales?

As a net developer I was frequently (and now progressively) confronted with various social networking issues when likely clients would say that owning a web site seems superior but they had a Fb business website page and had been advised by different sources (the ever existing nonetheless anonymous “they”) that social networks ended up the thing to do, but soon after speaking about their wants it became fairly very clear that those people likely clients failed to truly know why they necessary social networks or SMM to produce on the net sales, They just required it. For smaller and medium sized business I normally proposed constructing a quality web site in excess of any kind of social network, why? Perfectly it truly is basic actually due to the fact social media is Social Media, and social Networks are Social Networks they are not business media and business networks (that would be additional like LinkedIn). I know that seems basic but it truly is true and the data back it up. The simple fact is that social media internet marketing fails to convey to you that Fb is a social network not a search engine and even with the amount of Fb end users and Google end users becoming all-around the same, people will not use Fb in the same way that they use a search engine like Google (which has all-around half the search engine current market), Yahoo and Bing to search for business or goods. They use it to preserve in touch with relatives and close friends or for information and enjoyment. In a the latest review finished by the IBM Institute for Small business Value all-around 55% of all social media end users said that they do not have interaction with models in excess of social media at all and only all-around 23% truly purposefully use social media to interact with models. Now out of all the people who do use social media and who do interact with models whether purposefully or not, the bulk (sixty six%) say they require to really feel a company is communicating actually ahead of they will interact.

So how do you use social media internet marketing? And is it even well worth performing?

Perfectly initially of all I would say that owning a well optimized web site is even now heading to convey you significantly additional business that social media in most situations especially if you are a smaller to medium sized regional business due to the fact significantly additional people are heading to kind in “hairdresser Port Macquarie” into a search engine like Google, Yahoo and Bing than they ever will on any Social Media Site and if you will not have a web site you are lacking out on all of that likely business. Nevertheless even with all the (not so superior) data I even now feel it is even now a superior concept for business to use social media just not in the same way that a large amount of SMM industry experts are now, Why? Simply because it truly is evidently not performing in the way they assert it does. Fundamentally SMM Corporations and Small business as a full looked at social networks like Fb as a clean current market ripe for the finding and when Fb commenced having end users measured by the tens of millions PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel invested US$500,000 for seven% of the company (in June 2004) and because them a couple enterprise money corporations have designed investments into Fb and in Oct 2007, Microsoft announced that it had procured a 1.six% share of Fb for $240 million. Nevertheless because Facebook’s humble beginnings up right up until now (2012) both equally SMM Corporations and Small business have failed to truly capitalise on the massive amount of Fb end users on the net. The real truth is numbers does not equivalent buyers. Is it in a Social Media Advertising and marketing company’s finest desire to discuss social networks up? Unquestionably. Is it in a Social Community like Facebook’s finest pursuits for people to believe that that companies can offer en masse by advertising and marketing and internet marketing with them? Of system it is. In early 2012, Fb disclosed that its income had jumped 65% to $1 billion in the earlier year as its revenue which is mainly from advertising and marketing had jumped just about ninety% to $3.seventy one billion so evidently the concept of SMM is performing out for them but it is performing out for you? Perfectly… statistically no, but that does not automatically mean that it under no circumstances will.

I believe that the important variation in between social networks and search engines is intent. People today who use Google are intentionally looking for one thing so if they do a search for hairdressers that is what they are wanting for at that distinct time. With one thing like Fb the key intent is generally to link with close friends and relatives. In Oct 2008, Mark Zuckerberg himself stated “I will not feel social networks can be monetized in the same way that search (Look for Engines) did… In 3 several years from now we have to figure out what the ideal model is. But that is not our key emphasis now”. Just one of the biggest difficulties business facial area with social networks and SMM is notion. According to the IBM Institute for Small business Value review there ended up “major gaps in between what firms feel consumers treatment about and what consumers say they want from their social media interactions with companies.” For example in present day society people are not just heading to hand you in excess of there recommendations, Fb likes, responses or information without having having one thing back for it, so the old adage “what’s in it for me?” arrives into enjoy. So the key cause most people give for interacting with models or business on social media is to obtain discounts, nonetheless the models and business by themselves feel the principal cause people interact with them on social media is to discover about new goods. For models and business receiving discounts only ranks twelfth on their listing of causes why people interact with them. Most firms believe that social media will boost advocacy, but only 38 % of consumers agree.

Corporations require to obtain additional progressive means to link with social media if they want to see some sort of consequence from it. There ended up some superior initiatives revealed in the IBM review of companies that had gotten some sort of a manage on how to use social media to their gain, holding in brain that when asked what they do when they interact with firms or models through social media, consumers listing “having discounts or discount coupons” and “paying for goods and services” as the top rated two functions, respectively a U.S ice product company referred to as Chilly Stone Creamery supplied discounts on their goods on their Fb website page. Alternatively there is a excellent software launched by Very best Buys in the U.S referred to as Twelpforce the place staff members can reply to customer’s questions through Twitter. With both equally Chilly Stone Creamery and Twelpforce the benefit is evidently in the favour of the likely shopper &amp the excellent trick to social media internet marketing is to offer without having seeking to offer (or wanting like your marketing) however most social media internet marketing is concentrated the wrong way.

Developing a tangible purchaser to purchaser relationship through social media is not simple and likely the most benefit to business’ working with social media to raise their internet sites Google rankings. But business’ require to have an understanding of that you are unable to just set up a Fb business website page and hope for the finest. SMM needs work and likely consumers require to see price in what you have to provide through your social media efforts give them one thing well worth their social conversation and time and then you might get better effects.

10 Social Media Law and Governance Recommendations for Social Organization

Introducing the subject matter of “Social Media Governance,” advertising and marketing strategist and attorney Glen Gilmore stated, “Governance is about how a business establishes and sustains social networking finest tactics by integrating social media into its company tradition. These ten guidelines are need to assistance corporations create sustainable finest tactics in new media advertising and marketing.”

1. Create a Governance Team.

2012 need to be the calendar year in which small business gets significant about social media governance, integrating social small business into company tradition.

Your governance crew need to reflect a cross part of your firm and it need to develop into a center of excellence for your small business. Silos do not get the job done.

If your firm would not have a social networking plan, you are courting catastrophe as you are inviting even a solitary worker to have the energy to redefine your model in 1 inadvertent or ill-conceived article.

If, on the other hand, your firm was an early adopter of new media (or at the very least an early adopter of a social media plan!), it is probable time to update your plan. In the previous calendar year, the Nationwide Labor Relations Board has rendered over a hundred conclusions touching on the subject matter of worker use of social media, with several of the Board’s steps prompted by extremely wide social networking insurance policies that had been deemed to getting a “chilling outcome” on worker safeguarded velocity.

The regulation is at last catching up to the implications of the enormous quantity of interaction, advertising and marketing and discussion taking location on platforms this sort of as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, weblogs, vlogs, and so on. Your plan and rules need to reflect these changes and clarifications.

An abundance of product insurance policies exists on-line. Be conscious that some of the insurance policies you may possibly obtain on-line may possibly also be in need of updating or just plain erroneous. You need to spend in finding your plan ideal and the right plan for your firm may possibly fluctuate immensely based on they form of firm you are and the degree of current regulatory rules you have to adhere to.

Not like your social media plan, which establishes the rules and restrictions of on-line social engagement, your playbook need to be extra of “how-to” guide for your personnel, a reference that gives illustrations of what need to and need to not be finished on social networks. Social network profile templates giving strategies on how to finest challenge a skilled and steady model picture need to be integrated.

four. Create a Social Media Communications Disaster Management Approach.

Along the way, your small business will invariably have a disaster that will need it to muster its social networking methods. Put together for the disaster ahead of it transpires. This need to contain making a reaction chart of who in just your firm would be tasked with what and how they would be contacted, as most crises seem to be to materialize soon after five:00 p.m. or on a weekend. Have round-tables to establish the gatherings most probable to bring about a communications disaster in just your firm and then do some instruction exercise routines to run via how you charts and insurance policies would get the job done.

If you are a much larger companies, you probable presently have disaster communications designs – they need to contain social.

Recognizing the mechanics of what to do if an worker has despatched a mistweet from a company Twitter account (hint: never ignore it!) or what to do if your social network account has been hijacked by a spammer, are some of the eventualities you need to overview.

Be absolutely sure to go over this subject matter in both of those your playbook.

five. Consider the Time to Understand the FTC’s Social Media Disclosure Rules.

In 2009, the Federal Trade Commission, which characterizes by itself as “the nation’s customer defense agency”, up-to-date its endorsement rules to contain social media, addressing the disclosure requirement for sponsored bloggers and these that sponsor them, alongside with a collection of. Most entrepreneurs have hardly ever browse them. Put them on your studying listing! (When the FTC’s social media rules very first came out in 2009, I blogged about about them: they have not changed. New FTC Regulations: Organization and Bloggers Beware)

Succinctly, contrary to a huge body of writing on the topic, disclosure “tabs”, “buttons”, “hyperlinks”, and static profile disclosures do not suffice to fulfill the FTC’s disclosure necessities. (Disclosures are demanded in just the context of the social discussion.)

6. Give Your Workers with Social Media Coaching.

Most of your personnel are making use of social networks, this sort of as Facebook and Twitter, throughout the working day, regardless of what your business plan may possibly say to the contrary. Get over it. In its place, give your personnel the instruction they ought to have so that when they are making use of social media their time expended there will develop into an asset to your small business alternatively than a ticking bomb.

7. Create a Selection Tree.

Just as contact center personnel are generally offered with a selection tree to assistance them to speedily answer a myriad of thoughts, a social media selection tree need to also be recognized to assistance personnel have an understanding of the dynamics of responding on behalf of a model in social networks. The U.S. Air Force even designed a new media selection tree that the pharmaceutical Pfizer later employed as the foundation for its own. Social media governance need to aim to simplify social networking participation for personnel, when even now relying on the great feeling of personnel to personalize the social discussion. A selection tree will also incorporate to model regularity.

eight. Streamline Accessibility to Compliance and Legal.

Social media engagement is all about “serious-time” discussion. It would not signify a model demands to give an instant reaction to each individual article or tweet, but it does signify that your business need to attempt to answer thoughts speedily — you can get additional time by allowing your community know that you have heard a query or criticism and that are searching into it, but whatsoever strategies need to be adopted to provide a reaction have to be time economical. Owning a way to get responses from compliance or lawful needs a new technique that dedicates a better appreciation for the time sensitivity of responding to social network inquiries or opinions. Operate on a way to accomplish this.

As social networking continues to evolve, so need to your finest tactics and your sharing of data about these finest tactics. Just one of the lawful sizzling potatoes of 2011, the dastardly discussion of who seriously owns your Twitter account or your LinkedIn contacts, and so on., and so on., is established to be formally answered in 2011.

Without taking away the suspense of any impending courtroom selection, possession of a social media account is topic of discussion and litigation if it is not plainly defined and agreed on between companies and personnel or small business companions. Dispel the ambiguity and lawful uncertainty: make a prepared arrangement that addresses the difficulty.

A prepared arrangement outlining what is to materialize with a social media account opened or operated for a small business goal by an worker or small business lover on behalf of a small business is one thing that need to be expressly defined. Why? Since most now identify that social media accounts have a small business benefit and, left undefined, troubles of possession are probable to crop up when small business companions or personnel section approaches.

The described challenge is the end result of shifting the electricity via utilization of SNSs from corporation to shoppers. Additional social networks get common, the tougher is the implementation of business primarily based on common methods as a result providers must contemplate industry moves in this circumstance. Moreover, by digging up the info available on these networks identification of useful buyers would be simpler and a business can serve its useful buyers much much better in this regard.

The Electrical power of Social Media in Training

At any time due to the fact its inception, the World wide web has develop into an intricate section of everyday living wherever people rely on its entry for each day actions these types of as searching, social networking, schooling, banking, property security and other linked actions. Among the these, social networking, which seems to be the main attraction of the World wide web, can be found as a blessing and curse. Notably in schooling, social networking is found as a good indicator of progression in schooling and its tactics. Having said that, we can not deny the damaging influences that can accompany it, which seems be a distracter for quite a few college students currently.

Students regularly familiarize themselves with computer systems as they navigate these social networks. They acquire precious capabilities on an instrument that has develop into indispensable in the globe they reside as college students and the 1, which they will enter on completion of their research. Also, it encourages networking with a range of individuals, which can be considered as a necessary ability in the organization setting. This is also the circumstance for lecturers and administrators. With the existence of social blogs, Twitter and Fb, lecturers are able to share and record via a variety of mediums, approaches of instruction as effectively as educating theories and tactics in real-time. In addition, quite a few are able to develop on tactics for finding out and also interact with college students on a dependable foundation outside of the classroom.

On the contrary, the rise in social media and advancements in other interactive communicative technologies have produced damaging impacts in and outside of the classroom. When social media can be found as a good resource for schooling, this resource has the potential to hinder university student overall performance, social advancement, and communication capabilities. Similarly, it can influence a teacher’s general efficiency in various means. To what do we owe a decrease in tutorial overall performance as a outcome of its affect? What are the social ramifications of social media? What things are instantly liable for the incapability to educate college students efficiently? How are lecturers influenced by social media both equally in and out of the classroom?

For most, entry to the World wide web for academic needs would be found as a fantastic source for data nonetheless, for college students, the World wide web poses quite a few problematic things in tutorial overall performance. In general, small children who invest more time on the net find it tougher to concentrate resulting in shorter notice spans. Students who depend exclusively on social media for data fairly than investigating other resources are possible to encounter issues concentrating on finding out and data retention. It substantially affects examine behavior as college students are trying to multitask and finish up turning out to be quickly distracted because they are far too occupied tweeting and/or posting messages to Fb in lieu of finishing assignments.

Developments in and extreme entry to technological know-how are direct things on how social media has influenced the university student in and out of the classroom. Now, college students invest most of their time on these networks by means of cell units. Some faculties prohibit the use of these units nonetheless quite a few of them sneak them into school. They use these units to record videos acquire pics of themselves and other folks, lookup the World wide web, tweet and log on to Fb, so building it difficult to concentrate for the duration of instruction time. These actions also seek out to inhibit effective instruction. In addition to this quite a few of these actions have led to quite a few troubles in the school and neighborhood for example, fights, harassment, regulation satisfies etcetera. Extreme, unproductive time used on social networks can consequently be incredibly unhealthy, so having a damaging influence on teens and small children. We can then argue that educating/finding out, is in direct level of competition with Social Media, when they really should be partners in educating college students.

The use of social networks has also substantially reduced the use of proper grammar and syntax in writing. Students have discovered it difficult to differentiate among the proper use of language as a outcome of abbreviated writing and shortened varieties of term formulation. A lot of slang phrases have develop into prevalent in published class assignments. These phrases IDK (I never know), SMH (shaking my head), BTW (by the way), YW (you happen to be welcome), TNX (thanks), IMO/IMHO (in my belief/in my humble belief) just to name a handful of, have crept up in college students writing so much so that they are unable to have an understanding of the variations among the appropriate and improper way of spelling effectively. Instructors see the decrease in proper writing in capitalization, punctuation, and issue-verb agreements, to name a handful of. Students are so immersed in inadequate grammar use whilst on the net that they depend heavily on pc units to autocorrect their problems resulting in the decrease of their command above the use of English language. Subsequently making a conflict in grammar use.

Another essential point not to be forgotten is the influence of social media on face-to-face communication. Obviously, if college students invest more time on social networks then we can concur that they invest a lot less time socializing in human being. Deficiency of face-to-face interpersonal interactions can be instantly joined to lack of social capabilities and etiquette. We discover vital behaviors and psychological cues from shut personal speak to that can not be learned on the net. As a outcome some college students in no way discover to study entire body indicators and other nonverbal cues, like tone and inflection. Social networking sites really should not be found as a substitute for personal speak to but a precious addition that can build a effectively rounded socially modified person.

Now quite a few college students have develop into a lot less social with 1 a different preferring to interact on the net and reside a virtual globe dependent on phony personas produced quickly accessible by social networking sites. This of study course can have a long lasting influence on the relatives unit, wherever effective face-to-face communication is crucial in retaining healthier relationships. Can we then solid some of the blame of present day social ills and crack down in relatives composition on social media? Normally situations, we go to dining establishments, or other community areas and every person is occupied on a device, so incredibly small face- to- face communication is going on. The dilemma is how can we build a stability? How do we contend with this precious resource we simply call the World wide web although nevertheless retaining healthier relationships?

Social media/networking affects both equally college students and lecturers alike. For occasion, cyber-bullying can be found as the top damaging proponent of social media. A lot of situations violence in faculties has began by means of a social networking web-site. Instructors are also influenced by cyber-bullying. The perpetrators are in some cases college students and/or moms and dads. This abuse can be incredibly detrimental for a trainer as it decreases general efficiency and confidence in the classroom. Instructors encounter climbing amounts of emotion stemming from being unfortunate to turning out to be angry above on the net harassment. The encounter can be humiliating and uncomfortable. Defamation of character is very prevalent in the cyber globe and carries on to influence both equally lecturers and college students alike.

Social Media certainly affects all of us in some way or the other whether positively or negatively. Technological innovation will continue to evolve, consequently it is imperative that moms and dads, teacher’s administrators and college students all sign up for hands jointly in encouraging good, effective, effective, safe and sound and liable use of this precious resource. The extended-term effects of misuse can be incredibly perilous to progress in schooling and social growth.

Understanding the Main Components of a Social Intranet

So you want to implement a social intranet. You want to bring your business into the new generation of technology and create an environment where your employees not only have access to everything they need to keep your company running right at their fingertips no matter what the time of day or where they are in the world, but you want them to be able to interact with each other while they do it. In effect, you want to turn your business’ intranet into the hot hangout spot for employees.

So how are you going to go about it? You could simply walk up to your IT Director (unless you are the IT Director, in which case you can just look in the mirror) and demand that your business intranet not only go social but go mobile as well. But do you truly understand what a social intranet is?

A communal intranet brings together the best of two worlds: the company intranet, which allows employees access to all the documents, instructions, calendars and proprietary information they need to do their jobs daily. It’s a place where you provide employees with key information that can’t be shared in an uncontrolled environment. It’s basically the company library and handbook in the digital, mobile accessible form. The social aspect comes in when you decide to add interactive features to your Intranet, and we’re not talking about forms and three choice surveys that have been a part of Intranet capability since Server 1.0. A social intranet incorporates blogs, forums, online chat and chat rooms, and other types of social networking like status updates and feeds into the intranet environment. However, before you decide to jump off the deep-end and implement social networking as a part of your intranet system it’s important to understand the main components of a social intranet and ensure that it’s right for you, your business and your employees.

• People. The first, and most important component is the people that will be involved. In order to successfully implement it all, or at least most, of your employees should be able to access and use your intranet and the features that will be made available. This includes managers, executives, salaried staff and part-time hourly employees. If not everyone is going to have access to the intranet, and especially the social parts, your new social intranet may actually decrease employee morale and reduce your chances of promoting the long-term use among personnel and ultimately creating long-term success.

• Process. When we talk about the process, we’re not talking about the process you go through to actually implement a social intranet. Rather we’re talking about the process of integration that captures the true meaning of a social environment. For example, you’ll need corporate policies and governance for your new social intranet, and you’ll also need an enforcer. Currently only 78% of all companies with a social intranet have governance or policies. However, rules are important to creating an appropriate social network within your company’s intranet, more so than they are on social-networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

• Technology. Sure, creating a mobile and intranet is, in and of itself, technology. However, when you think technology in terms of your social intranet, you should be thinking about the types of tools you are making available to your staff on your new social intranet that makes it a truly social intranet option that they can feel good about using and actually get excited about. Some of the tools you can consider using in tandem when you develop your social intranet are commenting, forums, blogs and video blogs (blogs), wikis, tagging, presence, portals, employee networking, including status updates and feeds, commenting; forums and RSS feeds, just to name a few. However, these technologies are not the only ones that can be implemented to make your social intranet really special and something your employees will not only enjoy using but will clamor to use.

Essentially, when you decide that your company is ready to start building an intranet you have to consider whether it’s right for your company and for the people who work there. In some cases, social intranet may not be the best choice. If your employees enjoy social networking and understand the importance of your company’s intranet and also put it to use on a regular basis, then you may have just the right idea. But if this is not the case, then you may want to consider other options, like leaving it the same until you can bring all of your employees on board. You should also consider the cost, time and security ramifications that implementing it will exert on your business.

7 Steps to Sell Your Boss on Social Media Marketing

With words like “tweet,” “blog” and “unfriend” entering our standard lexicon, there’s no question that social networking has a significant place on our contemporary culture. And it’s no surprise that many companies have been using social media online to connect and communicate with their customers online.

But the benefits of social networking aren’t always immediately apparent to some. And that is especially true for businesses who are interested in having a lot of control over their brand name and brand image. Convincing some that every business has something to gain from online media marketing can be difficult. It can be hard to see how Web 2.0 marketing can result in a positive return on investment (ROI).

When it comes to convincing your boss or colleagues to invest in social networks, it helps to have a plan.

Here the 7 steps you can take when it comes to selling social media marketing to your boss or company.

1. Explain how social media is an unbeatable research tool. When a company is effectively tapped into the social media landscape, they get to hear a lot of chatter that they wouldn’t hear otherwise. Those engaged in social media marketing campaigns will be able to monitor channels for any mention of their company, competitors, industry, clients and potential clients. Setting up a social media marketing listening campaign lets a company know who is participating and what is happening.

Thanks to tools and services like Quantcast, Alexa and TweetMeme, it is now easier than ever to track and measure what people are talking about online. This information is invaluable for developing future marketing strategies, both online and offline.

2. Match the benefits of Web 2.0 marketing with your company’s goals. Whether your company or your client is a service provider, a business to business specialist or a business to consumer retailer, there’s a social media marketing strategy for them. But in order to convince others of online media marketing’s benefits, you have to be aware of the company’s goals. Do they want to enhance their customer service operations? To they want to reduce costs? Do they want to manage their reputation? Social networking can do a lot to help achieve all those goals. When you know what your boss or company wants, you can show how this will help them achieve it.

3. Start small. Even if they’re not bullish on social network marketing, your boss or others at your company are probably aware of the range of social applications and services that are out there. They may think that launching a social marketing campaign will be a huge undertaking, one that will require many work hours just to set everything up.

But that’s not necessarily true. A Web 2.0 marketing campaign doesn’t have to include a setting up a Facebook Fan Page, a Twitter account, a blog and a YouTube channel. In fact, it’s often easier to start small. Figure out which service will best match the stated goals of your boss or your company. It may be something as simple as registering a Twitter account and starting to engage people via tweets. Starting small requires little time and less cost. But the results can become apparent quickly. You can even begin to measure such results with a tracking service like Quantcast.

4. Set up a strategy and follow it. A social media campaign can appear strange and different, even to people who have plenty of marketing experience. If you don’t have a clear strategy for implementation and execution, reactions to your plan will be understandably skeptical to your social media marketing strategy. Take time to explain each step of the plan, describe why it’s being done and how it will benefit the company.

5. Look for examples of social media success. Lots of businesses, large and small, well-known and unknown, have been able to already achieve a lot with social media marketing. From Charles Schwab to FujiFilm to Goodwill, there are countless examples of companies who have been able to successfully use social networking to achieve their corporate goals. Find them and broadcast the results.

6. Anticipate Questions. It’s natural for people to be skeptical of new things and new ideas. While you may be well aware of the benefits of social media marketing, keep in mind that resistance may simply be the result of some people being overly cautions. That’s why it’s important to anticipate any and all questions or objections someone may raise. Find good case studies and other examples of social media marketing successes. Have these on hand to use as examples. Here are some common questions that skeptical bosses may have about social media marketing:

• Our customers aren’t online. This line of reasoning is being used less and less, but some companies may still think this is true. The truth is, at the cusp of the 2010s, nearly everyone is online. Online activity isn’t restricted to any gender, income level, education level, or location. There are countless surveys to prove this. One of the largest survey groups, the Pew Research Center, frequently provides data for online use, broken down by several categories.

• What if someone writes something bad? This is a common fear among those resistant to social media marketing. But studies show that when companies engage with customer complaints and criticisms, they end up looking better than before. Mention that people will likely complain whether you’re engaged in social media or not. It’s better for nearly every brand to appear involved with its customers. Even the angry ones.

• It’s too time-consuming. After setting up social media marketing accounts on networks like Facebook and Twitter, the actual maintenance doesn’t take that much time at all. You can spread social media marketing efforts among the staff, or you can task a single person to handle it. Either way, social media marketing doesn’t require countless work hours. Create a timeline showing the typical amount of time one will spend on social media every week to help prove this point.

7. Make your case. Prepare a short, punchy presentation that hits on all the above topics. Give your boss or colleagues plenty of time to ask questions. Think about your boss or colleagues’ personal preferences and consider how you can best sell your Web 2.0 marketing idea. And remember that there may be some things you don’t know. Social online marketing is still relatively new, and that means that there are still many unanswered questions out there. Be honest about what you don’t know, but make sure to point out all possible benefits to Web 2.0 marketing.

Social network marketing is an exciting new medium that companies can use to achieve just about any business goal. By convincing your colleagues or your boss of the effectiveness of this type of online marketing, you’ll be on your way to discovering the enthralling, challenging and rewarding new world of online business networking.

Social Investing: What Is It?

Social investing has received a lot of interest in recent years – especially following the financial crisis. Most people, however, are left wondering: What is social investing? Let’s answer this question.

To understand what social investing is, we must first consider how traditional investors look at the world. In traditional investing, investors weigh investment decisions by looking at two broad factors – risk and financial return.

Risk, Return – and Social Impact

Each investor has a certain comfort level across the risk-return spectrum, and he or she does their investing within that band of the spectrum. An investor might be comfortable giving up some of their return if an investment is safer. On the other hand, the same investor might be willing take a little more risk with an investment if it translates into a higher return.

In social investing, a third factor is thrown into consideration – social impact. Social impact means that the enterprise supported by the investment yields some benefit to society beyond the income it generates for investors. Conversely, an enterprise can also have some negative impact on society, and a social investor will also take this into consideration when making investments.

Just as traditional investors are willing to make a trade off between risk and return, social investors are willing to make a trade off between risk, return and social impact. If an enterprise is doing something that’s improving the environment, for example, a social investor may be willing to give up some financial return or assume greater risk on that investment depending on his or her individual comfort level.

In short, social investing can be defined as considering the social impact of an enterprise when making investment decisions. By this standard, a number of investment approaches fall under the umbrella of social investing: mission investing, responsible investing, double-bottom-line investing, triple-bottom-line investing, ethical investing, sustainable investing and green investing.

Social Screening

Within the universe of social investing, there are two broad categories: social screening and impact investing. In the social screening methodology, an investor comes up with a list of social standards that he or she wants his or her investments to meet.

The investor eliminates any company that does not meet these standards and then invests in the “socially responsible” companies that do meet the standards in a way that meets the investors risk and return objectives.

A number of socially responsible mutual funds have emerged that use such an approach. They adopt a social screening methodology, define a large basket of investments that adhere to those standards and then have their management company invest within that basket to meet the financial objectives of the mutual fund.

Impact Investing

The second broad category of social investing is known as impact investing or, sometimes, community investing. In impact investing, rather than investing in companies that do no harm, investments are made in companies that do social good.

Enterprises that fall under the impact investment heading perform services that have a charitable or social purpose but also have a business model that can generate income and support a financial investment. They straddle both the charity and business worlds.

Impact investment enterprises might be structured as non-profit or for-profit companies but rarely do they take the form of the large public companies listed in the capital markets. As a result, making an impact investment is more difficult and usually takes the form of a private investment in the form of a note or loan.

Impact Investment Sectors

So what exactly are these impact investment enterprises? To get a better sense, let’s look at some of the sectors that qualify as impact investments.

Affordable housing is one sector familiar to most people. Most people support an organization like Habitat for Humanity by making donations, but a foundation, for example, might support them by providing a low interest loan to fund the organization’s projects.

Microfinance is another impact investment sector. A microfinance institution makes small loans to entrepreneurial people in developing countries to give them the opportunity to start or grow their own business and lift themselves out of poverty. A microfinance institution works similar to a bank, so it is able to generate income and support investors.

There are many other similar sectors that generate income and have a social mission at their core: fair trade, community development organizations, social enterprises, etc. In each sector, companies can often find investors who are willing to give up some financial return or take on a bit more risk because of the social impact that these organizations have.

Help In Overcoming Social Anxiety

“Hello all- I’ve got a problem with social anxiety; I get very tense when speaking with damn near anyone, stranger, friends and even my family… Occasionally, though, I’m able to completely relax and be really quite sociable, although not consciously… I also do some door to door sales, and it really hurts my ability to sell when I’m completely tense and forced, obviously. It seems the main point in most every article or piece of advice is to “just get out there”. But I’ve done this, and done this, and done this. It doesn’t matter how many doors I knock, how many parties I go to, how many times I visit w/ my family, it’s always the same. And I’m tired of it…”

Does this sound like you – or ring a bell? This person – who recently wrote this, asking for help in a blog, is describing a very common problem all over the world – overcoming social anxiety. Social anxiety is not simply shyness – but more like fear, but not exactly fear. Fear is when you know exactly what you are afraid of. Anxiety is what you feel when there may be a threat. Social anxiety is when you are anxious and not comfortable around people because of the threat of what might happen.

Just thinking about these social situations can make someone become frightened and anxious if they are dealing with overcoming social anxiety. They will then go out-of-the-way to avoid these situations, even at great cost.

With social anxiety, there is an underlying fear of being judged, becoming a public embarrassment and being scrutinized. You may have fear of what people will think of you and that, in comparison with other people, you will not measure up. You may feel you will be laughed at for making some social mistake or not responding in just the right way.

A lot of people who suffer from shyness and social anxiety are extremely self-conscious and are very self-critical. This also stems from irrational thinking. You have the choice to change your thinking if you choose to. Logically you know that these negative thoughts are not true, so don’t buy into them.

Social Anxiety is largely about feeling “overwhelmed.” The feeling of being overwhelmed is what pushes people into limiting their life to a greater and greater extent, until they find themselves living in a very small world indeed. But it doesn’t have to stay that way. Understanding that your Social Anxiety is REALLY about feeling overwhelmed can help you to gradually begin making changes to eliminate it.

What steps can be taken in overcoming social anxiety? There are many approaches – but some of the most empowering lie within you. Here are a few common-sense approaches that you may find really are the key to your success:

Take tense situations in small doses. When you approach a situation that you know will make you feel tense and anxious, depending on how long you can handle it, start out by only staying in the situation for a short time. The timeframe is up to you – whether it be for only 1 minute – or 15 minutes. Deliberately approach anxious situations knowing that you will only be there for your allotted time (set by you, of course). Then – slowly increase the time to 5 and 25 minutes (or whatever works). Don’t push it! It may take months and months to do this, but it doesn’t matter. Take all the time you need. Remember this phrase, “Nothing succeeds like success.” This means that success builds momentum and leads to greater success. This is particularly true with overcoming social anxiety. It is very important that you continue to have good social interaction that does not overwhelm you. It does NOT matter how long the interaction is; all that matters is that you get through it without any strong negative feelings. DO NOT push yourself too hard. You don’t have to!

There are many other tips and approaches, but these are a nice beginning – and may actually solve your problem! As long as you realize that it is not hopeless, that you are responsible to change yourself, you can be a victor in overcoming social anxiety. Don’t forget to affirm yourself along the way!

Set yourself up for positive interactions. We started this article out with an example of person who did try to “get out there” and found it really hard. So… when facing long events such as family reunions, holidays, going to people’s homes etc., you may want to assess the situation ahead of time – and determine how much time you’ll spend there – and with whom. The goal is that you set yourself up for positive (short) interactions with individuals (at first), not large groups. At large group meetings – try to find individuals to link up with – not address the whole group at once. By repeated positive interactions over a long period of time, you will enjoy your social interactions more, and find yourself overcoming social anxiety little by little.

Step out of your comfort zone. Now this does not mean that you have to do anything drastic. Start to become willing to accept change. You must be willing to change your thoughts and behaviors if you want to be rid of this problem. This way you are limiting your anxiety – instead of letting your anxiety limit you. You can start stepping outside of your comfort zone by doing little things. Try to see if you can break a ritual you have. We all have some kind of daily routine that we have. If you park in a certain parking space every day, try parking somewhere different. Try speaking to people in a line at the store – or at a park, dry cleaners, hair dresser, etc.

Reward yourself! When you do something difficult, such as making a telephone call or going to a meeting, immediately reward yourself. Setting up a reward system can really motivate you and keep you on track (Starbuck’s coffee, going out to lunch, etc. – fill in the blank).

Be prepared physically – before approaching difficult situations. In other words, don’t smoke, drink, use caffeine, and do get enough sleep and exercise routinely. Make sure that you check with you doctor to find out if you have a physical problem (such as hypothyroidism, or diabetes) that may affect your sugar level, or metabolism – which can lead to generalized and social anxiety.

Don’t anticipate trouble. What if this happened? What if that happened? The more you think about something, the more you will attract it. It is time to stop focusing on all the things you don’t want to happen, as this will not help you overcome social anxiety.

Have a positive mental picture. From now on, start focusing on what you DO want to happen. Write down how you imagine your life without social anxiety. Get it down on paper to turn it into a goal, rather than a mere fantasy floating around in your head.

Do something completely unexpected. Whenever you feel yourself slipping back into that horrible feeling of being anxious, do something you might consider crazy (or not “you” at all). This may startle you out of your negative thought pattern into thinking happier, more positive thoughts. Make it a “win-win situation. In other words, instead of rehearsing over and over what went wrong, make it a learning situation – to help your success in the future. Allow yourself to make “mistakes”. We all do. Just get back up, learn from them – and keep moving on…

Join a therapeutic support group with people who also have difficulty in overcoming social anxiety. This setting allows you to open up about your fears and learn effective social skills to help in everyday life. However, for some this can seem counterintuitive as group settings are a trigger for social anxiety, and may be too challenging for someone just setting out to overcome their social anxiety with the standard approaches.

There are many other tips and approaches, but these are a nice beginning – and may actually solve your problem! As long as you realize that it is not hopeless, that you are responsible to change yourself, you can be a victor in overcoming social anxiety. Don’t forget to affirm yourself along the way!
